Meet the Herd: Henryetta

Meet the Herd: Henryetta

Henryetta and I at Cabot Library

Name: Henryetta

Age: 3 years (April 2016)

Species: Goat

Breed: Spanish/Boer Cross

Henryetta was born and raised on our farm. When she was about two weeks old, we lost her momma, so she became a bottle baby. Most of our goats are not raised on a bottle if we can help it, so having a friendly bottle baby is fun sometimes!

Since Henryetta was so friendly and used to being handled, she got volunteered to go to a few 4-H programs. She LOVED it. She has been to multiple schools and libraries to help kids learn about goats, ruminant digestive systems, and various other animal science topics.

Henryetta developed some kind of issue with her rear legs at about a year old. For a while, she didn’t walk on either back leg – it was crazy. Over the years, she has come to walk a lot better, but sometimes her back legs look like wet spaghetti noodles. Even with her back legs not being 100% she can still outrun us!

When we first bought Loretta, we knew she needed a friend, so we brought Henryetta up to the barn to live with her, they became BFF’s and their favorite thing was to free range in the yard everyday when I got home.

In March 2019, Henryetta surprised us with her first kid, Idabel. Idabel is too cute, and too big for her britches! Idabel has already made her debut at several 4-H programs this spring.
