Introducing: Female Farmer Friday
I’m thrilled to announce a new feature coming up on the blog:
FEMALE FARMER FRIDAY!
I love being a part of a community that supports females in all roles in agriculture! Every Friday I will be featuring a different female farmer, rancher, or homesteader and sharing their story with you. We have awesome women from all across North America sharing their stories of agriculture. We have permaculture farmers, produce farmers, livestock farmers, flower farmers, first generation farmers, and farmers with full time off-farm jobs.
Not only are these amazing females sharing with us about their farming operation, they also share their struggles, their long term goals, what they see as the biggest misconceptions in agriculture, and what they are deeply passionate about.
Here’s a preview of some of the exciting interviews to come:
Brandi Buzzard Frobrose is a cattle rancher, blogger, and breakaway roper from Kansas with her husband and their precious daughter, Oakley. She is pro-GMO because science!
Kyle Brisendine raises grassfed beef and lamb and has an on-farm shop where they sell their meat and wool. Kyle is passionate about cooking with the food she has grown herself.
Kelsey Jorissen is a first generation farmer that runs most of her permaculture farm by herself. She is a whiz at online marketing and has an awesome sustainability podcast!
Katelyn Duban was one of my biggest inspirations to start Female Farmer Friday through her Rural Woman Podcast and her facebook community! Katelyn is from Alberta, Canada, and didn’t have an agriculture background before she married a multi-generational farmer named Justin. She has a goal of learning of run every piece of equipment on their farm.
Loagan Robinson is another podcaster that I admire. Her podcast “The Ranching Brunette” shares stories of industry struggles and successes in an effort to inspire others to succeed in the agriculture industry, specifically first generation ranchers, like herself.
Shyla is another Canadian on our list, and she has an amazingly varied operation. Her farm includes Muscovy ducks, free range chickens, goats, sheep, pigs, rabbits, along with a small orchard with cherries, raspberries, strawberries, apples, plumbs, and rhubarb.
Shannon Short has an Angus ranch and hay farm in Oklahoma. It was fun to learn that she hated the farm at first, but fell in love with the cows. She is also super passionate about Livestock Guardian Dog rescue.
This is just a brief preview of the amazing Female Farmers we are going to feature. I can’t wait to share their stories with you. If you want to make sure you don’t miss an interview, be sure to sign up for the Flying Pig Cattle Co. mailing list!
